Podcasts that get to the heart of caring

New podcast: Why They Do What They Do

As health insurance for the nursing and midwifery community, we’re all about recognising and celebrating the dedication of our members. Day in, day out, they comfort us, care for us and cheer us on, often when we’re at our most vulnerable. So we love sharing the stories of how their passion and compassion lifts us all.

In our latest podcast, Kurt Fearnley chats with nurses Adrian, Rachel and Carly, to give us a glimpse into the hearts and minds of our nurses. From making critical decisions to being able to share a laugh amidst the chaos, they share the realities of a life spent caring for others.

Kurt Fearnley is a high school teacher, former professional wheelchair athlete and Paralympic Games medallist, as well as being our Teachers Health Group ambassador. As a media presenter, he loves sharing the stories of real Australians.

Rachel Bamford

Country nurse, Rachel Bamford

Having spent time in a big city hospital when her child was unwell, Rachel decided she wanted to care for people the way the nurses had cared for her. She now works in a small country hospital and said when things get serious, it’s all hands on deck – whether it’s after an accident or delivering a baby. After 20 years, Rachel still loves going to work every day. She loves the people, the conversations and making a difference in people’s lives.

Adrian Spinelli

Nurse manager, Adrian Spinelli

Adrian says only nurses understand the reality and unpredictability of what they do. And that’s why it’s crucial to take care of yourself, your colleagues and even hone in on something funny in a tough situation. He believes that without nurses, hospitals couldn’t run – nurses are there at the bedside when the big things happen. Having worked in spinal rehabilitation, he said some of the best connections come out of the least likely moments.
