TOGETHER.
BETTER.
From 1 July 2025, Teachers Union Health (TUH) will officially join Teachers Health Group, incorporating Nurses & Midwives Health (Teachers Health), bringing together two health funds with a proud history of supporting the nursing and midwifery communities and their families.
Like Nurses & Midwives Health, TUH is a not-for-profit, union-based brand that shares similar values, stakeholders, and a strong connection to the nursing and midwifery communities.
Here are just some of the reasons TUH chose to join forces with Teachers Health:
Delivering best health outcomes
TUH and Teachers Health were established by unions committed to delivering the best health outcomes for their members.
Together, we’re stronger
The merger strengthens our position as Australia’s largest industry-based health fund, covering nearly 500,000 lives.
Discounts and increased benefits
Members will soon enjoy a larger national provider network, more discounts, updated benefits, and greater long-term value.
We’re for members (not profit)
Teachers Health has given more back to members as benefits than the industry average (for over 10 years!).
Frequently asked questions
Why is Teachers Health undertaking a merger?
The decision to join forces with TUH was made to secure and strengthen the health funds for the long term.
Together, we’ll cover nearly 500,000 lives - a larger membership base that will give us the scale to better navigate challenges and compete in a changing market.
As one fund, we’ll be better positioned to maintain high-value health cover, with enhanced benefits and greater value.
When will the merger take effect?
The merger will take effect 1 July 2025.
Why TUH?
TUH is a not-for-profit, industry-based health fund that shares similar values, stakeholders, and a strong connection to the education community. Like us, they put members at the heart of everything they do.
In 2018 they established Union Health to provide hospital and extras cover for all union members (including nurses and midwives) and their families.
By coming together, we offer health insurance that’s dedicated to nurses and midwives.
With a stronger national presence, we’ll cement our position as Australia’s sixth-largest health fund and the largest not-for-profit, industry-based fund.
What does the merger mean for Nurses & Midwives Health members?
The merger marks the start of an exciting new chapter for Nurses & Midwives Health members, who will soon have access to a broader preferred provider network, making it easier to find support when and where it’s needed.
Members will also be able to access the Health Hub in Brisbane – a one-stop shop for health services.
As a single, united fund, we’ll be better positioned to maintain high-value health cover, with enhanced benefits and greater value.
Will the Nurses & Midwives Health brand remain?
The identity of Nurses & Midwives Health will remain, and our commitment to supporting the health insurance needs of the education community and their families will remain as strong as ever.
Who is TUH?
Founded over 50 years ago, TUH provides affordable, fair health cover that’s tailored to education workers and their families.
In 2018, TUH established Union Health to provide hospital and extras cover for all union members and their families.
Both are not-for-profit and exist to support their members, delivering quality health cover, award-winning service, and trusted care to those who help shape, serve and support our communities every day.
