Why private health insurance?

Australia’s health care system includes services that are funded by both state and federal governments, as well as private health insurance.

Private health insurance protects your most important asset – your health. It gives you peace of mind in the event of needing medical assistance and allows you to take control of important decisions when it comes to managing the health and wellbeing of you and your family.

Private health insurance gives you the freedom to choose your own doctor. It enables you to decide when and where you’d prefer to be treated and allows you to avoid the lengthy public hospital waiting lists. With Extras cover you can also claim benefits on services that aren’t generally covered by Medicare, including optical, dental, physio, chiro and remedial massage.

While any Australian resident can be treated in a public hospital by a hospital-appointed doctor for free, the public system has limitations that can affect your choice of doctor and timely access to a range of medical care and support services.
