Using the Healthy Lifestyle benefit

These programs are all accessible to eligible members through the Healthy Lifestyle part of Nurses & Midwives Health Extras cover. We've included a brief summary of each program here – you can learn more at each provider's website.

The Healthy Lifestyle benefit can’t be used for prepared food, vitamins, exercise equipment, books or DVDs. First aid courses and kits are also excluded.

Be Fit Food Weight Management Program

The Be Fit Food Weight Management & Healthy Living Program aims to improve your overall health by giving you info and support to help you reduce body fat and implement long term dietary changes. The program is based on the principals of a low carbohydrate diet as supported by the science of the CSIRO. It comprises of two steps – weight loss and weight management. You can use your Healthy Lifestyle benefit for this program excluding Be Fit Food meals.

Core & Floor Restore

The aim of this 8-week online program is to help you heal and strengthen your pelvic floor and core. Core & Floor Restore was founded by midwife and personal trainer, Bernadette Lack.

CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet

A low kilojoule diet that uses a food group counting approach to manage food intake. This approach encourages optimal nutrition while reducing food intake to enable weight loss.

The program offers a menu plan, recipes, exercise information and online tracking tools. The meal plan is adaptable for gluten and lactose intolerance and for people with coeliac disease.

The program is untested for vegetarian or vegan diets and may not be nutritionally complete in these circumstances. It's not suitable for pregnant women.

National Healthy Eating Activity and Lifestyle (HEAL) Program

The HEAL program is a lifestyle modification program that supports participants to develop lifelong healthy eating and physical activity habits.

Facilitated by allied health professionals, the HEAL program is specifically designed as a prevention program for people who are at risk of developing cardiovascular disease or type 2 diabetes. It is also suitable for people seeking to manage their weight, type 2 diabetes, heart disease (including high blood pressure or high cholesterol) or metabolic condition.

HEAL facilitators are trained to support individuals who may be unfamiliar with how to make positive health and lifestyle changes or who may be unsure of how to safely take up physical activity.

 

How does it work?

The program offers eight group sessions in a friendly and supportive environment. The sessions comprise of one hour of lifestyle education and one hour of supervised exercise that can be modified to suit individual needs.

One-on-one health consultations to assess current health status, fitness, measure progress, plan an appropriate exercise program and provide ongoing support are also provided at the start of the program and after the eight weeks of group sessions. The program is now available in 70 local government areas across Australia, including all capital cities and a broad network of rural and remote areas.

In addition to the Healthy Lifestyle Program Form and your receipt, please make sure you submit a certificate of completion from your HEAL facilitator.

Impromy Program

A very low kilojoule weight loss program that replaces whole meals with liquid supplements. (Supplements contain milk, soy and oat products, may contain traces of egg, nut, wheat. Minimal lactose, no artificial sweeteners).

The program can be used for a short time to promote rapid weight loss in obese people. You'll need medical approval to participate, and ongoing support throughout the program and when food is reintroduced. Weekly follow-up is encouraged with an Impromy consultant (in-person or over the phone).

Interval Weight Loss

Formulated by Dr. Nick Fuller, one of Australia’s leading obesity researchers, Interval Weight Loss is an online program which provides you with a daily habit tracker, healthy recipes, educational content and weekly feedback. There’s no calorie counting or obscure ingredients to source.

The aim is to reach your weight loss goals and maintain your lower weight. Interval Weight Loss is a clinically tested, scientifically proven program to prevent weight regain.

Another low kilojoule option, this program takes place through an online community where you can connect with other participants. It includes recipes, shopping lists and nutrition and exercise information.

28 is an online training and nutrition program designed for anybody, anywhere. It gives you an easy-to-follow structure to that can fit into even the busiest of lives. You don’t need a gym, you don’t need equipment… you just need a phone and 28 minutes a day.

The philosophy behind the program is: keep it simple. Move differently every day for 28 minutes, eat real food, take time out when you need it and surround yourself with the support you need.

SHED-IT

This is an online weight loss program designed by men, for men. Participants can lose, on average, 5kg over the 12-week program. Any male aged 18-80 can sign up for SHED-IT and learn how to lose weight and keep it off for the long term.

TIFFXO is an online program that takes a holistic approach to health. The philosophy is you can’t have a healthy body if you aren’t mentally and emotionally healthy too. The program provides workouts and meals for every day, and helps their members mentally chill as well.

Weight Watchers

Weight Watchers takes a low kilojoule approach and uses SmartPointsTM to encourage a flexible approach to meal planning.

You're provided with low energy recipe ideas, and are encouraged to access in-person, online or telephone support to discuss nutrition, exercise and wellbeing. To be eligible, you must have a weight 3kg above the healthy weight range for your height. You won't be eligible if you're pregnant.
